European organic formula brands usually meet higher standards than organic formula made outside Europe.
Most of the brands we stock are certified organic by the EU. Which means they’re guaranteed to be free of hormones, GMOs, added sugars, artificial preservatives, antibiotics and pesticides. Regulations in some countries (including US FDA regulations) aren’t as tough, so you won’t get that same guarantee.
Some European organic formulas meet even higher standards. For example – Holle meets the Demeter standard for biodynamic agriculture, which means they use farming methods that fit natural climate cycles.
We do stock a selection of specialist brands that may not be EU-certified. But we have utmost confidence in their processes, as they closely align with the same standards. This includes sourcing milk from pasture-raised animals, ensuring high-quality products.

The recommendation you get will depend on things like your baby’s age and any allergies or sensitivities they have. Plus any preferences you have as a parent.
It’s important to listen to, and follow, medical advice. We’d never recommend you go against your pediatrician’s recommendation.
But pediatricians aren’t always aware of every formula brand. If there’s a brand in our store you think is right for your baby, it’s worth discussing it with your doctor.
All the formulas we stock are made using organic methods. This means they’re all made using milk from cows or goats raised on grass, on farms where they have plenty of freedom and fresh air.
The result is nutritious, clean milk. But each brand has its own ways of processing that milk to turn it into formula.
For example – some include starch, which makes formula filling and creamy. Others avoid starch, as it can be hard for some babies to digest.
DHA is an essential fatty acid that is vital for healthy brain development. It’s naturally present in breastmilk.
EU regulations mean that DHA has to be added to formula. Thismeans we don’t stock (and wouldn’t recommend) a DHA-free formula.
Some formulas use DHA derived from natural fish oil. Others (including Holle Goat) use DHA derived from algae.
Goat’s milk formula is becoming more popular – though it’s not necessarily better than cow’s milk.
It can be easier for some babies to digest, because the proteins in it are more like those in breastmilk. There’s also Holle A2 formula – a cow’s milk formula that contains the same type of protein as goat’s milk and breastmilk.
All formulas contain oil. It’s needed to get the fat levels in the milk up to the same level as breastmilk. Fat provides the energy your baby needs to grow and for their brain to develop.
Because the formulas we stock are organic, so are the oils used in them. Vegetable oils like sunflower oil are often used.
You might also see fish oil on some ingredient lists. This is included as a source of DHA – an essential fatty acid also found in breastmilk.
Organic starch (including maltodextrin – a starchy carb) is often used to make formulas more satisfying and filling. You’re most likely to find it in Stage 3 or 4 formulas designed for older babies who need lots of energy.
Most of us eat starchy foods every day, and there’s nothing harmful about starch. But some babies (especially younger babies) can find it hard to digest in their milk.
Prepping and storing formula
European dates are reflected differently than in the US, with the month and day reversed. For example, July 30, 2019 would read 30/07/2019 or 30.07.2019. Just remember, the format is always DAY / MONTH / YEAR.
Our formulas will arrive to you with a minimum of 4 months shelf life remaining. In fact, most of our formulas have at least one year prior to expiration. This means we are shipping formulas that are recently produced and fresh! You should never receive a box with an expiration of less than 4 months; if you do by a rare chance, please contact us.
There’s no single answer to this question. To get an estimate, check the product page for each formula.
Newborns will usually have smaller bottles, more often. Toddlers might only need 1 or 2 bottles a day – but they’ll usually be large. Most parents find a 600g box of formula will last around a week for a newborn.
Yes. Though it’s rare, formula powder can contain bacteria that might make your baby sick.
Making bottles using boiled water kills bacteria. But it’s also important that you cool bottles to room temperature before you feed, so that they’re not too hot for your baby.
You’ll find prep instructions on every product page in our store.
Once made, bottles are safe to feed for 1 hour at room temperature. Or 3 hours if kept refrigerated.
If you’re out for the day, or want to make night feeds easier, use HiPP ready-to-feed. This is pre-prepped formula that you just pour into a sterilized bottle and feed.
Yes! Lots of parents combine breastmilk and formula. And because European organic formula is closer to breastmilk, it’s ideal for combi feeding.
We recommend using containers (cans or boxes) within 3 weeks of opening.
To make sure your formula stays fresh and safe as long as possible, keep it sealed. If it’s a can, use the lid that comes with it. If it’s a box, reseal the foil pouch.
You should also store it somewhere dry and dark. Some kitchen cupboards can be too humid to keep formula in – the moisture in the air can make it spoil faster.
